Yazd
On the border of two deserts, the Great Salt Desert to the north and the Great Sand Desert to the south, Yazd is an extraordinary place famous for its myriad of wind towers that catch the slightest breezes and tunnel them down to provide natural air conditioning for the city. Yazd is most significant to followers of the ancient religion Zoroastrianism with its funerary Towers of Silence and Atashkadeh (house of eternal fire). Places of interest in Yazd included the Jameh mosque, the Zoroastrian fire temple, Alexander's prison and the Towers of Silence- ancient burial grounds just outside the city.
